Just 11 days after production finally resumed at its embattled infant formula facility in Sturgis, MI, Abbott was forced to announce on Wednesday that the plant was yet again being shut down temporarily. Abbott can't seem to accomplish anything right.
This time, the facility will be shut down because torrential rains caused flash flooding at the plant. The plant had spent the last 4 months on the shelf whilst the FDA investigated bacteria contamination in powdered infant formula.
The Sturgis plant has recently become the focal point of public anger being an acute shortage of baby formula has plagued the U.S. The reopening of the plant 2 weeks ago was fast-tracked in a desperate effort to simply help alleviate the shortage, however now which will be on hold before flood damage could be addressed.
